A Voice of OHTC in a Spinning Mill

Introduction

Hello Textile Technocrats, I am the Overhead Travelling Cleaner, often called “OHTC,” a name that reflects my role in your mill. Regrettably, I feel quite disrespected and like an unwelcome addition to the workers in your mill. At the same time, the Quality Guru ‘USTER’ recognized my significance and featured me in their articles back in 1970.  I am the fifth generation in my family, yet 90% of spinners do not extract more than 40% of our work. Oh God! What mistake have we made? The ‘USTER’ company frequently indicates that 60% of ‘Short Thick Faults’ in the yarn originate solely from Ring Frames. My connection to managing Short Thick Faults in the yarn makes me joyful about my birth!

I am not an unwanted Nail for your mill

Am I the ‘Blue Superman’ or the ‘Red Superman’?

I am travelling along a straight or circular route to collect waste from the machine and the floor, depositing it into the waste box periodically. If I maintain good health and move smoothly, the occurrence of short thick faults in the yarn will decrease, leading to improved Auto Coner efficiency and higher yarn quality.

When I get stuck or distracted from my work for various reasons, some of the workers immediately block my blowing nozzles with cotton. In this situation, it’s similar to Mr. Vadivel’s phrase, “It’s come, but not come.” I am present, but I am not productive!

Due to misunderstandings about me, the workers keep me idle. I don’t know if they are concerned about the electricity bill and stop me for power saving!

Honestly, I am not a ‘Blue Superman’ when it comes to yarn quality. However, if I am not healthy and become distressed at work, I will definitely be a ‘Red Superman’! That means the faults in the yarn will increase!

As ‘Red Superman,’ In the Ring Frame, I can create ‘H1’ Thin faults in the yarn. If a sliver in the Simplex machine gets disturbed by me, it causes ‘H2’ type thin faults in the yarn.

Instead of properly disposing of waste in the waste box, I can scatter it throughout the department, which results in Thick faults in the yarn.

If my suction hand becomes dislocated from my shoulder, it could result in self-injury or damage to the floor. Regardless of the outcome, any damage incurred will be attributed to your organization.

I am not someone who remains calm under pressure; if there is a fire within me that too will be mixed with the waste

If you restart my journey without precautions and measures, the yarn quality will deteriorate further, and breaks in the Ring Frame and Auto Coner will increase significantly.

So the answer is not in my hand! You only have!

I am like Aladdin's magic lamp for you; if you listen to my words!

Various types of blowing pipes are available on the market. To achieve the best results, select the correct size and shape of blowing pipes according to the specific machinery part and its location.

Once you have finalized the shape and position of the blowing nozzles for all locations, label each nozzle and the blowing pipe with an alphanumeric code. This way, if a blowing nozzle is damaged or missing in the future, a technician can easily replace it with the correct one.

The area between the roller stand and the spindle beam requires air blowing rather than focusing on other areas. Even if a cop remains in position for over three hours, it receives blowing air for only 12 minutes. If the overhead travelling cleaner (OHTC) is shared between two ring frames, then each cop will receive blowing for just 6 minutes. Since fly generation is highest at the bottom stage of the cop, it is crucial to ensure effective blowing in that area. To achieve efficient air blowing for the entire cop, consider using a funnel-type blowing nozzle here.

So, before choosing the location of the blowing nozzle, discuss it with everyone at all levels. The core goal is to control yarn faults, not to identify the mastermind.

I cannot collect more fluff and flies at once. If you need to pause my operation for an hour or longer, please do so manually before I arrive.

Before restarting the Ring frame, which is currently stopped for doffing, please ask the sweeper to clean the floor before I arrive.

If the floor level in your mill is not uniform between the Ring Frames, do not adjust the height of the suction pipes. While this might support for a smooth moving, it is not a solution to the problem. Instead, use a rubber-made bottom suction nozzle and connect it to the main pipe with a flexible hose. This way, you can avoid making any compromises!

If you think that I have to take care of the two ring frames, I need an additional waste collection box on my path. This will allow me to dispose of the waste quickly and continue my journey as ‘Garden Fresh’!

Some of your workers are kicking me. If your production team, doffing gang, and cleaning crew do not require my presence, please provide me with provisions for halting or returning. I maintain my health as a gym enthusiast!

I am not an expensive Audi car, and you don’t need to spend a lot on maintenance. I am like a savings bank for you; what you invest in me, I will return with additional earnings! If you nurture me, you can reduce at least ten clearer cuts per hundred kilometers of yarn in the Auto Coner. This can help you save many lakhs of rupees in a year.

I can offer my support if you take care of me through periodic Machinery Auditing.

My Health focuses on enhancing the well-being of your organization, which leads to satisfied customers.
